Michael Simic is a songwriter and performer. He has toured nationally and internationally to widespread critical acclaim and sell-out shows, both as a solo artist, and with his long term band, Mikelangelo and the Black Sea Gentlemen, who celebrate their 20th anniversary this year.
Stepping out from behind his Mikelangelo persona, Simic releases his 15th album, Caravan Songs, in May 2021.
“…haunting…beautifully crafted…Mikelangelo, it seems, has just unleashed his inner self.” John Shand, SMH
Based in the Braidwood region of NSW, Simic lives in a converted church with his wife Rose, their daughter Sunny and their smiling Labrador, Luna. In the garden they have an old caravan, adorned with Chagall-like murals painted by Rose, where Simic goes to write.
For Bellingen Readers and Writers Festival, Simic joins forces with author Kirsten Krauth to present songs and readings from her celebrated novel Almost A Mirror. Their collaboration runs deep, the two artists finding an intuitive flow that explores the poetic possibilities of songwriting and the intimate power of live performance. Also joined by Paul McDermott, this will be a rare opportunity to see these diverse artists come together for the first time.
