Peter Carey’s Illywhacker was written 10 kilometres from Bellingen on the Never Never River, upstream from the little church which inspired Oscar and Lucinda.
He has won the Miles Franklin three times and the Booker Prize twice His Parrot and Olivier in America was shortlisted for the 2010 Man Booker Prize and the U.S National Book Award.
