Vasyl Myroshnychenko was appointed as the Ambassador of Ukraine to Australia less than a month after Russia invaded his homeland in what has become the largest attack on a European country, and largest refugee crisis, since World War II.
Tens of thousands have been killed in the fighting, including large numbers of civilians. Despite UN demands for a full Russian withdrawal and an ICCC investigation into crimes against humanity and genocide, fierce fighting continues to this day.
Over two years have passed since the invasion began, displacing over 6 million people and devastating Ukraine’s cultural heritage. The environmental damage has been extensive, with international observers describing the scale of destruction as ecocide.
The Ambassador is joined by war correspondent and national security expert Misha Zelinsky, who spent 2022/23 covering the war from inside Ukraine, to discuss the country’s fight for the future.
